Outreach is what we call our efforts to remove an obstacle to individuals access to a resource.
Our current outreach is focused on helping individuals apply for STAP (Specialized Telecommunication Assistance Program) vouchers that can be used to purchase adaptive technology.
The STAP application requires certification of the applicant’s disability by a doctor, special ed teacher, advanced practice nurse, or professionals with a few, specific credentials. It is often difficult for the applicant to describe WHAT they are asking this person to certify.
We are addressing this obstacle with multiple strategies:
1. Training
We are training professionals to certify application by distributing a written guide.
2. Outreach
We are coordinating events to bring together the applicants and the professionals who can help them.
